SRWMD announces photo contest, winners to
be included in 2025 calendar

LIVE OAK, FLA., AUGUST 21, 2024 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) wants your help to raise awareness of the beauty and significance of our natural resources by participating in a District lands photo contest.

The District invites photographers of all skill levels to capture the spirit of our District-owned lands and help us spotlight the need for their conservation and protection. Winning photos will be featured in an upcoming District Lands calendar for 2025, which will highlight District initiatives and other water management activities.

“Through this contest, we want to highlight the importance of preserving and protecting our natural resources for future generations,” said Hugh Thomas, executive director of the District. “Whether it’s a sunset at Mallory Swamp, the crystal-clear waters of Telford Spring, the towering pines of our Ellaville Tract, or wildlife such as pine snakes at Mattair Springs, photographs have the ability to help develop a deep appreciation of Natural Florida and encourage people to help keep these resources safe.”

The contest will take place through the months of August and September. Submittals begin August 21, and all entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on September 20 for consideration. Submissions must be taken on District-owned lands and will be judged by a four-person District panel during the month of October.

Thirteen photos will be selected – a cover photo and 12 monthly photos. Photographers whose photos are chosen will receive credit for their work and receive a framed copy of their photo. Additionally, winning photos will be featured on District social media platforms.

Winners will be announced by the end of October.
