[ARCHIVED] Virtual Open House for Flood Map Improvements in Levy County

LIVE OAK, FLA., Sept. 25, 2020 – Join the Suwannee River Water Management District (District) in a virtual open house on October 1 at 6 p.m. to discuss the preliminary flood map for Levy County. The meeting will highlight upcoming changes to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps and how these changes may impact residents and stakeholders.

Flood risk can change over time due to new development, weather patterns and other factors. As a Cooperating Technical Partner, the District is assisting with the coordination of FEMA’s Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (MAP) program. This program will update flood maps which will involve collecting map risk data, assessing present and future risks, planning for risk and reducing (or mitigating) risk of potential flooding.

Along with upcoming changes and impacts, the District will provide information on how to view the preliminary copies of the updated maps at the meeting. Homeowners, business owners, renters, realtors, mortgage lenders, surveyors and insurance agents within Levy County are encouraged to participate in the virtual meeting. Attendees will also be provided with information on how to register for Part 2 of the open house. Part 2 entails a one-on-one session with District staff to view, discuss and ask questions about the changes specific to their property.

The virtual open house will utilize technology for visuals and telephone technology for audio. Residents and stakeholders who would like to participate in the meeting are able to register at https://bit.ly/330sYrp. A confirmation email with a link to join the virtual meeting will be sent after registration. If you have questions about the meeting, please contact Leroy Marshall, chief professional engineer for the District, at 386.362.1001.
